GT-RENEW fixes the GT POWER phone directories which have embedded information
that would otherwise cause them to become unusable after 150 uses. The best
way to eliminate this problem is to register yourself (and pay the requested
amount). You will then get a 'key' that will permanently make your phone
directories usable.
If you have already reached the limit, you will have seen what GT POWER
does - it hangs the system, forcing you to re-boot. While this is better than
intentionally damaging files, it may do so indirectly ( if it happened while
multi-processing, as with DoubleDos, DESQView, etc. ). Not very nice. Might
even make you want to switch to Qmodem, ProComm, Boyan, etc. If so, and you
don't have a list of all the phone numbers in the GT directories, you can
run GT-RENEW which will allow you to easily see them again.
To use GT-RENEW, make sure you are currently in the subdirectory which
contains the GT.DIR file, and type 'GT-RENEW RENEW'. If you are curious, and
want to see what happens when the counter runs out, type 'GT-RENEW UNNEW'.
( If you do this, you can always 'renew' GT.DIR after your next re-boot.
If you have multiple directories, each can be renewed. If you have 4 of these,
i.e. GT.DIR, BBS.DIR, OHIO.DIR and WORK.DIR, you can either:
GT-RENEW RENEW ; renews GT.DIR
GT-RENEW RENEW BBS ; renews BBS.DIR
GT-RENEW RENEW OHIO ; renews OHIO.DIR
GT-RENEW WORK ; renews WORK.DIR
or do it in one shot by using GT.BAT:
GT BBS OHIO WORK ; renews each, then GT.DIR if it exists...
Note: Read the top of GT.BAT for more information...
